What To Expect On Your First Visit

Here’s what you can expect on a Sunday morning.  A hearty hello from a greeter, a bulletin from an usher, people standing around talking with people sitting in pews, a three year old girl dances around the sanctuary and chancel, a smile or a nod hello from people who are trying to remember if they met you last week, hugs and kisses between friends greeting one another, people trying to find name tags and extra bulletins, laughter and more talking, the buzz of many conversations.  Around 10:55, the organ music pre-prelude begins, soft at first but building with intensity.  Some people keep talking anyway, and other people scurry to their seats.  “Good morning and welcome to worship!”

You can sit anywhere.  Some people sit in the same place each week, but they usually arrive early, and will be happy to “share” a pew with you.

We wear comfortable weekend clothing.  That can be shorts and a tee shirt, jeans or a skirt and a sport shirt, a sport coat and slacks or a dress, a suit.  White tie is strictly optional.

We welcome everyone in worship, even people who fidget.  We have a nursery for children up to age 6, located on the lower level of the building.  Some families prefer their children to sit with them for worship, some families prefer to use the nursery.  That is their choice.  We have a rocking chair in the narthex.  We have worship bags for younger and for older children.  Adults who feel the urge to fidget can fidget away, or get up walk around.  God understands, and so will we.

We have a printed bulletin each week, which gives directions for the worship service – hymns, prayers, and so on. We use hymnals for our songs.

We have a Hearing Loop, for people who need hearing assistance, and we have some portable units with earbuds or with headphones.

Rest rooms are easier to find if you come in the side entrances of the sanctuary, just follow the signs.  If you enter from the sanctuary, ask an usher for directions.

We have ushers and greeters who can answer your questions.

And we have a wonderful Fellowship Time following worship, with good food and more conversation.
