Small Groups

Please note that during the Covid-19 pandemic, we temporarily cut back on our small groups, but we are starting to build our groups back.

Our church has offered a lot of special study groups, from Bible 101 to End of Life Choices, from a regular group that knits in our chapel to studies on Advent, Lent, and Contemplative Prayer.  We have had book groups, exercise classes, classes for women, classes on aging, classes for parents with young children, classes on human sexuality, classes on racism, classes on privilege, even classes on death.  We’ve have not done it all, but we’ve done a lot!  We have typically offer about eight classes a year, which usually run from 4-6 weeks, and are led by the ministers, led by church leaders, led by church participants, and sometimes led by people in the community.  Everyone is welcome to attend our small groups.

Regular Groups

  • Smith Sunday School Class – Sundays, 9:30 – 10:20 AM on Zoom. Named for long-time teacher, Winnie Smith, the Smith Class is an adult bible-study class. The class term runs from the Sunday after Labor Day until the last Sunday in May, with the class taking a break for the summer.
  • Prayers at the Labyrinth – Wednesdays, 12:00 Noon in the Labyrinth at Church. Each Wednesday at noon, we gather around our labyrinth on the west side of the church for 20 minutes of prayer and 40 minutes of conversation. All are welcome; chairs are provided. If the weather requires, we gather in the Chapel.
  • The Front Porch – Wednesdays, 7:00 -7:45 PM on Zoom. Pull up a comfy chair and join us as we enjoy some informal conversation, fellowship, and sharing time together.
  • Men’s Prayer Breakfast – Fridays, 8:00 AM at Oakcrest Family Restaurant. All men in the church are cordially invited to participate in the breakfast. They enjoy good food, good conversation, and brief prayers for the world and our church.  The group tries to end by 9:15 AM.
  • Evening Prayer – Fridays, 5:30-6:00 PM on Zoom. A short reading or piece of sacred music, 20 minutes for a Centering Prayer “sit,” writing in spiritual journals or practicing the Examen, a short prayer or reading to close.
