Congregational United Church of Christ, Greensboro, is a progressive, welcoming, loving, Open and Affirming (ONA), Climate Justice church with a rich spiritual life. We want our church to be living water not only to our members but to those in the community who are struggling with poverty, racial discrimination, discrimination because of sexual orientation or gender identity, or any other issue that pushes them to the margins. We stand with all those at the margins of our community and our larger society.
We are seeking a part-time Associate Pastor who will focus on two main areas of ministry: pastoral care for members of all ages and faith formation/Christian education for children and youth. With these areas of focus in mind, we envision calling an Associate Pastor who:
- Demonstrates a deep commitment to nurturing and caring for the church community.
- Brings passion for developing and expanding children and youth programs as a cornerstone of ministry.
- Combines creativity with strong organizational skills to enhance church activities and initiatives.
- Thrives on the energy and connection of an actively engaged congregation
General Responsibilities
- Promotes a strong sense of community inside the church, focusing inward to allow the Lead Pastor to focus outward into the greater community.
- Extends a warm and compassionate demeanor toward all members and friends of the Church. Communicates and listens in a non-judgmental manner and with a sense of humor.
- Fosters the welcoming culture of the UCC, encouraging members and following up with visitors.
- Collaborates with the Lead Pastor and church members to oversee curriculum for children and youth as related to the needs of the congregation.
- Contributes weekly assistance in worship leadership.
- Collaborates with Lead Pastor and staff to prepare and participate in special worship events of the Church, including but not limited to Advent, Christmas Eve, and Holy Week/Easter Services, as well as weddings, baptisms, funerals/celebrations of life.
- Presents well-organized, faith-based sermons every 4-6 weeks to cultivate a spiritually meaningful and active faith life in the congregation, incorporating pastoral and prophetic emphases.
- Participates in the administration of church business in consultation with the Lead Pastor, Council, and appropriate boards. Attends meetings regularly with Council and boards.
- Provides creative leadership, perspective, and input to carry forward the church’s ministry and mission.
- Collaborates with staff to create an engaged team environment.
- Works with staff, volunteers and lay persons to build consensus and make decisions.
- Seeks to find strength, energy, and vision to lead, giving attention to the Marks for Ministry.
- Pursues educational opportunities to strengthen and grow skills.
